BOOTS AND THE HEARTBREAKER RELEASE DAY!

 BOOTS AND THE HEARTBREAKER
Ugly Stick Saloon Book #11
by Myla Jackson

Welcome back to the Ugly Stick Saloon! Finally! Colin McFarlan gets his story. There’s nothing like a meddling momma with an ultimatum to get her sons serious about marriage and children. Thankfully, two of the McFarlan men are living their happily ever after. Now they have to convince the last bachelor standing among them to find the girl of his dreams and settle down. Easy, right?
Blurb:
Colin McFarlan’s back is against the wall. Two brothers have caved to their mother’s threat to sell the ranch if they don’t get married and give her grandkids—now it’s his turn. Too bad the only woman he’s ever loved is the one who came between him and his brother Brody.
When Fancy returns to Temptation, he’s determined to steer clear of the gorgeous real estate agent, who looks good whether dressed up in a pencil skirt or dressed down in cowboy boots.
Fancy Wilson made mistakes. Getting engaged to Brody was the first. Weeping in Colin’s arms—and falling into his bed—on the night she and Brody broke up was the second. She’s not adding to her sins by falling for Colin all over again. She’s had enough heartache.
Yet when Colin asks her to help break up a romance between his mother and the notorious town heartbreaker, she can’t resist. But soon they’re scrambling to undo the damage they’ve done…before it destroys their last chance for happiness.
Warning: Breaking up is hard to do, but reunion sex can be oh, so fine!

Excerpt:

“The situation is unacceptable. We need to talk.” He grabbed her hand and led her toward the bar. “Come on.”

“I’m not thirsty.”

“I’m not getting you a drink.” He hauled her past the bar, glanced around for Greta Sue, the bouncer who was standing at the entrance of the saloon carding everyone walking in.

“Then where are you taking me?” She tugged her arm to free it of his grip. “What if I don’t want to go there?”

“We can’t stand by and do nothing.” Colin strode down the hallway behind the bar and threw open the first door he came to. “In here.”

Fancy was practically flung into a storeroom filled with cases of booze.

Colin entered and shut the door behind him.

Alone with the man she was supposed to be getting off her mind or out of her heart, Fancy’s pulse hammered against her eardrums and her palms grew moist. What was he going to do? Kiss her? Declare his undying love for her? Sweep her off her feet and tell her he couldn’t live another day without her?

All those thoughts flitted through her mind as her breathing became rapid and ragged.
She waited for him to turn, to show her the love still evident in his eyes.

When Colin faced her, it wasn’t with love shining out of his eyes, but an angry glare. “We have to break those two up.”

LOVE A BACHELOR AUCTION?

If you love a good bachelor auction, you're gonna love this story. One very determined mama is going to stir things up in Temptation Texas!

Read all the way to the bottom for a chance to win!

BOOTS AND THE BACHELOR

Blurb:

A cowboy takes a woman and her son under his wing…and teaches their hearts to fly.

Angus McFarlan’s mother can’t be serious. Sell the ranch? Yet Mom has a point. Bringing the Rafter M out of bankruptcy has kept Angus and his brother too busy to date, let alone have children to inherit the legacy.

The last thing Angus wants is to get half-naked for the Ugly Stick Saloon’s Annual Cowboy Auction, but it’s a jump start into the dating scene. His buyer turns out to be a Dallas businesswoman, all legs and curves—a challenge to unwrap from that sexy, buttoned-down suit.
CEO Gwendolyn Graves has no time for a relationship. All she needs is a male role model for her young son, Dalton. She never thought her bachelor cowboy would impose conditions of his own. Like make her agree to spend time with him. Alone.

As Angus teaches Dalton what it means to be a man, he and Gwen discover a passion that ignites flames they thought they didn’t have time to fan. And soon find themselves learning how to open their hearts and be a family. Just when they start thinking longer term, Dalton’s father re-enters the picture—and trouble isn’t far behind.

Warning: Quiet, sexy cowboy and woman in a tight suit get all unwrapped and tangled in the sheets in Texas.

Excerpt:

“That’s what we need,” Colin commented.

“What’s that?” Angus asked.

“A relationship like Audrey and Jackson have.”

“Those are so few and far between.” Angus slid off the stool. “Ready to go?”

Colin’s brows wrinkled. “Come on, Angus. Stay. I’m getting a kick out of watching this whole process.” He glanced around the room. “I can’t wait to see the next schmuck they conned into this.”

“Might be worth it if they were auctioning off a cook. With Mom on strike, we’re going to suffer.”
“Shh. Charli’s about to announce the next cowboy.” Colin leaned forward, a grin spreading across his face. “Gotta see who will be the next sucker.”

“Ladies, this next hunkilicious man is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for some lucky woman. He’s tall at six feet two inches.”

“Ahhh,” the crowd sighed as one.

“He’s got black hair and amazing gray eyes.” Charli dragged it out, spurring their anticipation.
Angus shook his head. Somewhere behind the stage or in the crowd, a cowboy was probably shaking in his boots, dreading the moment his name was announced and he was paraded around the stage like a pony.

“Descended from strong Scottish warlords, he’s a true-blue, honest-to-goodness, rough-around-the-edges rancher with big, calloused hands.” Charli paused and winked at the women. “You know what that means.”

The women screamed and clapped, beer sloshed and laughter followed. Every numbered paddle in the room fluttered.

Colin elbowed Angus in the ribs. “I could swear they’re describing you.”

Angus leaned forward, his heart stuttering against his ribs. He drew in a breath and held it.

“Ladies, our next offering will be for not one, not two, not three dates with this hunka hunka burnin’ love. The lucky winner gets four dates with a man some would call a horse whisperer, a real-life cowboy, boots and all.” Charli stared across the room, straight into his eyes. “One of Texas’s most eligible bachelors, Angus McFarlan!”

Colin shouted, “Hot damn!” Then he laughed so hard he doubled over, a hand pressed to his side, and fell off his stool.

How could this be? “I didn’t sign up for this,” Angus said, but wasn’t heard over the shouts and catcalls from the hundreds of horny women in the crowd.

Still sputtering, Colin pointed a finger at him. “You should see your face. I can’t believe she did this.”

“Who?” Angus would like to get his hands around the throat of whoever had played this rotten trick on him.

“Who do you think? Mom!” Colin slapped Angus on the back. “You’re in it now. These women won’t let you back out.”

“Come on up to the stage, Angus.” Charli crooked her finger and grinned. “The ladies want to see what they’re getting for their money.”

Angus turned to run, but was blocked by Greta Sue, the bar’s bouncer.

“Come on, cowboy, we’ll get you there in one piece.” Greta Sue grabbed his hand in her manlike grip and charged forward like a linebacker breaking through the defensive line of an opposing football team.

Angus tried to free his hand, but Greta Sue held tight. Short of hurting her, he had to go along.
Women touched, pinched and kissed his cheeks as he passed through the crowd. One of them caught hold of his shirt and wouldn’t let go. With Greta Sue pulling him one direction and his shirt going the other, the buttons gave, popping one at a time until the last one ripped free of the fabric. The shirt came off as he was pushed and shoved from behind, with Greta Sue leading the charge in the front.

The only good thing about making it to the stage was that Greta Sue released his hand and the women couldn’t pinch his ass. Angus stood, glaring at the rabid females, rubbing his butt and wishing he were anywhere but there. The exit seemed so far away. He spun, hoping to duck out the back of the stage, but Greta Sue stood behind him, her arms crossed, feet spread.
He could knock her down and make a run for it, but his mama had taught him better than to hit a woman, no matter how manly she might be. Getting through the crowd to the exit was not even the slimmest possibility.

Charli stood to the side, with that damned silly grin on her face. “What will you give for four dates with this mass of purely masculine muscle?”

Angus closed his eyes and prayed no one would bid. That he’d be allowed to walk free of this huge embarrassment. When he got home, he’d have a long talk with his mother about volunteering him for charity events he had no desire to be a part of.

“Five hundred dollars!” a woman shouted, waving her paddle from the middle of the room.
Angus’s hopes for a humiliating but commitment-free escape melted away as the first paddle rose high in the air.

“Do I hear seven-fifty?” Charli prompted.

“Yup!” Another paddle shot into the air.

“One thousand. Do I hear one thousand dollars?” Charli barely got the words out before another paddle rose.

“Me!” the woman cried out.

Angus stared out into the mass of eager female faces. “Ms. Fenton?” Was that the gray-haired librarian he used to visit once a month as a kid?

“That’s right, sweetie, I might be old, but I’m not dead.” She winked at him. “At least not yet. And I’d like a little beefcake to keep me warm for four delicious dates.”

Angus’s eyes widened. Holy shit. What was it about a cowboy auction that got the young and old single women to come out of the woodwork and blow their hard-earned cash on a few measly dates?

“Fifteen hundred anyone?” Charli stared around the room.

Angus did too, wondering if anyone would outbid Ms. Fenton and rescue him from four dates with a woman old enough to be his grandmother but with a wicked grin that frankly had Angus quivering in his boots.

The bidding stalled and Angus had to do something to get it going again, or he would be spending the next month taking Old Lady Fenton out to dinner. Not that she wasn’t nice and all, but the way she was rubbing her hands together made him as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs.

Desperation drove him to do something he would never have done in a million years.

Angus tightened his abs and shoved a hand through his thick hair, pausing like the models and weightlifters did to show off the hard-earned six-pack definition across his belly. He hadn’t gained those muscles in a weight room. Tossing hay bales and lifting heavy fence posts did that to a man over the years.

God, he felt silly, but the crowd surged forward and eyes widened.

“One thousand going once…” Charli started.

“Fifteen hundred!” The woman who’d shouted was probably in her forties.

Angus nodded. Better. He couldn’t expect the younger ladies to have that kind of money. Dating a cougar wouldn’t be bad. Hopefully, she wouldn’t expect more than the four dates and he’d be done. Free to spend time with his horses.

“Turn around!” another woman shouted.

“Come on, Angus,” Charli said. “Turn around and let the women see the whole package.”

He frowned at her.

“It’s for a good cause,” Charli cajoled.

“Come on, Angus,” Colin’s deep voice called out over the others. “Show ’em whatcha got.”

Angus made a slow turn and paused with his back to the crowd, feeling incredibly stupid.

“Fifteen hundred going once…” Charlie gave a long pause, “…going twice…”

“Five thousand dollars!”

Angus spun toward the sound of utter insanity, searching the faces for the one woman who’d shouted.

Every face in the crowd turned as well, and they all seemed to be looking at the lady standing beside Mona at the bar. The auburn-haired woman who’d, for a brief moment, reminded Angus of someone who’d stolen his heart so many years ago. His chest tightened, and he squinted against the stage lights, but couldn’t quite make out her face.

“Sold!”

Reader's Review by Sparkymom

MACK'S WITNESS
By Myla Jackson

Warning: Battle-hardened, ready-to-cut-loose Marine teams up with a stunning Irish lass who thinks she can handle him. You’ll need the luck of the Irish to hang onto your seat for this sexy, suspenseful race across the Emerald Isle.

Sparkymom rated Mack's Witness a 4.0 out of 5 stars "Easy sexy read"

This review is from: Mack's Witness (Hearts & Heroes) (Kindle Edition)

This novel begins with Mack, a Marine deployed to Afghanistan, and his chance meeting with Deirdre, an Irish supermodel. Both have very busy lives filed with travel all over the world, and neither are looking for a relationship or any sort of ties. Unfortunately for them, their chemistry is immediately off the charts and an impromptu kiss sends things over the top. Following some heavy flirting and maybe another kiss or two, the couple decide to risk a night together...no strings attached. Mack, however, has forgotten he comes from parents who fell in love at first sight and just left his brother's wedding which was also the result of a first sight Cupid strike. When Deirdre gets nervous and tries to leave in the middle of the night, she unknowingly becomes the only witness to a murder. Mack decides to use part of his leave from the Marines to become her protection until the killers are caught. The book is not that long, so the action heats up pretty quickly. Their attempt to get off the grid and hide fails, and Mack and Deirdre have to work together to bring down the criminals.

This book seemed a little short to me, so things happened really fast. Since it seems to be a theme for this series, the love at first sight whirlwind romance didn't really bother me. I have not read any other books in this series or by this author, but I had no problems keeping up with this story as a stand alone. I would have maybe liked a little more depth on the suspense end and more time for it to build, but the characters were great...especially Mack's family. Overall, it was a sexy easy read with awesome Irish accents.

The Reading Librarian's Review

MACK'S WITNESS
By Myla Jackson

Warning: Battle-hardened, ready-to-cut-loose Marine teams up with a stunning Irish lass who thinks she can handle him. You’ll need the luck of the Irish to hang onto your seat for this sexy, suspenseful race across the Emerald Isle.

The Reading Librarian rated Mack's Witness 4.0 out of 5 stars

This review is from: Mack's Witness Kindle Edition (Hearts & Heroes)
I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. Myla Jackson writes some hot and sexy heroes and places her heroines in danger so that the heroes get to strut their stuff and make us all wish we had a hot handsome hunk waiting for us at home.

Mack’s Witness is no different. This is book two in the Hearts and Heroes series, with book one being Wyatt’s War. In book two the focus is on Mack, Wyatt’s brother, but Wyatt and the rest of his family make an appearance or two. I won’t say anymore than that because I really don’t want to spoil book number one if you haven’t read it yet. If you haven’t read book number one, then I would read one before starting two. They can be read as standalone, but personally I love knowing about how all of the characters connect and relate to one another!

So it turns out that Wyatt from book one actually has lots of siblings, which surprised me because I couldn't remember any mention of them in book one, but maybe that is because I might have glossed over that part if it was indeed mentioned – he just seemed like a lone wolf to me with just himself to rely on. Anyway, Wyatt, Mack and the rest of the family are in Ireland for a wedding and Mack has been in Afghanistan and is happy to be getting some time for R & R. What he doesn’t bank on is an ice queen – an Irish ice queen who heats him up in all of the places that haven’t been heated up for a while.

Deidre Darcy is the cousin of the bride and she is stunningly beautiful - of course as an international model, she would be wouldn’t she? Despite being a model and having a lifestyle that others would kill to have, she isn’t fulfilled and I guess that she misses being part of a family – her parents are dead, and perhaps deep down she is tired of being alone. Mack also doesn’t recognize her – but then again being in Afghanistan when/where would you see billboards with female models like the gorgeous Deidre on them?
Mack is your typical alpha male but he has a great sense of humour and from the beginning when the sparks start to fly he delights in teasing the ice queen and this just helps to make her more human and down to earth and not as distant.

There were a few issues that I had and these are just my own sensitivity to what I was reading. Deidre is Irish and I know that they speak with an accent, but accents are really hard to convey in the written form – when you listen to the Irish speak it’s more of a lilt in their voice and that is damm hard to put on paper and into words, so I guess that I probably wouldn’t try too much – maybe with elderly characters, but not with a young lady like Deirdre. What made it even more confusing for me was that there were times when Deirdre had no accent at all and the there were others when she was accent only and rather heavy at that. I understand that they were in Ireland but the in and out of accents really got to me and I just began to wish for plain language, not the Irish, with all of the feckin’ etc .

Mack’s sister Abby also describing her mother ‘We got that from our mother. She was beautiful.’ was another issue and this just jerked me out of the story and had me thinking – why use the past tense – the mother is present and she isn’t dead and there hasn’t been any mention of a disfiguring accident of any kind, so what is going on? Ah dear, this is the English teacher in me coming to the fore and I apologise but this kind of thing bugs me intensely.

Back to the story and after escaping from Mack’s room Deidre sees two guys. This was after some hot and heavy sexiness under the sheets where she is thrown for a loop because Mack affects her and she doesn’t really know how to deal with what she is feeling. She drops her things and thankfully Mack comes to her rescue and there is some more fun in the bedroom – these scenes are so perfectly written and they are not in the slightest in any way just gratuitous for the sake of having a sex scene. They are integral to the development of the story and the development of the relationship between the characters.

It turns out later that Deidre is a witness, having most probably seen the murderers who killed someone in the room next to Mack’s. It also turns out that the murderers were travelers – or in plain and simple terms gypsies. They were celebrating a very gypsy wedding in the same hotel that Mack and Deidre and the others were staying at.

So, now for issue number two. Deirdre is a witness and can identify the two suspects and the local police let her run off with Mack into the Irish countryside. Now I don’t really know that much about police in Ireland, but I am sure that if you have a witness – your one and only witness, you wouldn’t let them go and traipse all over the countryside and possibly get killed. OK, I get that it’s part of the story line but the author could just as easily have put them in a house/estate under police guard and let things happen and it would most likely have been a bit more accurate. Anyway, suffice it to say they go traipsing around Ireland and end up in a castle and somehow – and this isn’t explained – these travelers find them and all hell breaks loose.

I did like Deidre who, for being an Irish supermodel was not in any way high maintenance or conceited. She was kind and down to earth. I also really liked Mack because he was a no nonsense kind of guy who tackled problems head on and despite all of his alpha maleness he was the kind of guy you could easily fall in love with – sexy, kind, considerate, great in bed…. I can see myself waiting for books about Ronin, Sam and Abby, the rest of the siblings.

I also enjoyed how Ms. Jackson made it work that these two with such separate careers could find some middle ground and start a relationship. Both were quite resistant to start with, but it takes danger and life threatening injuries to make people come to their senses and realize that whatever the issues are, they can be worked out.
A solid second book in a new series by Myla Jackson. Get yourself Mack’s Witness and fall in love with Mack, Deidre and the rest of the Magnus tribe!
